From the DirectorThe PromisePac – What It Is And Why We Need It.Jorge loves the kids in his youth group. Though he’s not much older, he feels the burden of being their leader. Jorge Gonzalez is a Foursquare youth leader who lives and ministers in the town of Villa Lochin, Panama. Under his guidance he averages 25 youth a week, made up of teens who struggle with many of the same issues that our youth groups do here in the States. However, poverty that impacts so many in Central America hasn’t spared Jorge’s youth group and church. He lacks the New Testaments, tracts, and discipleship materials he’d like to have. He also needs a way to grow as a youth leader, read more books, gain some fresh ideas, and connect with other youth pastors. There are youth workers around the world like Jorge, who have little in the way of Gospel resources to reach teens in their communities. These same leaders often lack the basic tools to teach the kids they do have. After Jeff and his team listened to the needs of these leaders, we created specific youth-oriented literature. |

We also created a web/file-sharing site to give them access to a wide spectrum of youth group materials and the ability to link with each other. We then sent four large crates with tons of gospel materials, including New Testaments. Jeff returned this May to Central America and asked the follow-up questions, “What more can we do, and how can we do it even better?” He met with another 100 youth leaders and many of these leaders plan in turn to train other youth leaders. Central American Foursquare youth leaders desperately want more materials. They have already made plans to use what we’ve sent this summer. Four crates is not enough, they need more.

However, we can only meet their needs if friends like you join with us. And there is more… This summer, a U.S. Foursquare youth leader and a small team of high school youth are going to Kenya to meet with over 25 Kenyan youth pastors. They will trail blaze our efforts in Africa, the first of many such teams, networking with African youth pastors. By the fall of this year, we will have several dozen Central American and African Foursquare youth leaders identified. Our vision is to see them, and many others, eventually connected with youth groups here. Currently, we must resource another large shipment to Central America and to Kenya. Each crate costs, to fill with materials and ship, approximately $10,000. We estimate five crates total in the next few months. It’s a great challenge, but also a privilege. Jeff Tolle told me that a Guatemalan leader recently said to him, “I see youth who didn’t believe they can be anything, believe they can be something.” And here’s a wonderful praise report: In Panama, because of the resources we sent, youth groups plan to evangelize over 40,000 young people! This is just the beginning. Together, we want to resource youth workers around the world. We need churches, youth groups, and friends to be with us at the “ground floor.” If you would like to learn more about this exciting new ministry, please don’t hesitate to call me toll-free at 1-888-635-4234 x 4420. Thank you for praying for this critical project. Youth leaders like Jorge Gonzales will be so grateful. Until all have heard,
P.S. Please take a look at the flyer of the PromisePac to see Jorge and other youth leaders. |
